Leitrim star Tomas Beirne is a major doubt for the remainder of the Allianz National Football League after the Eslin man was involved in a traffic accident on Friday evening.
Beirne was injured in the accident in Ballyleague near Lanesboro on Friday when the lorry which he was driving was involved in an accident.
The Leitrim player, who was last in action for the Green & Gold against Clare in Milltown Malbay, was taken to hospital in Ballinasloe before being transferred to Galway.
The Leitrim Observer understands that Tomas Beirne will remain in hospital in Galway for futher assessment during the week.
The news comes as a major blow to manager Sean Hagan’s plans as the Eslin man has been a key part of the attacking strategy employed by the Leitrim boss in 2014, his ability to score vital goals from the full-forward position proving particularly important so far this year.
Beirne has made an impressive return to the Leitrim colours and his likely extended absence is a major blow for the Green & Gold.
Everyone connected with Leitrim GAA and the Leitrim Observer will wish Tomas Beirne a speedy recovery.
