One of the more bizarre moments of last Saturday’s Championship clash in Pairc Sean was the substitution of Dromahair’s Kevin Conlan.
After a tireless effort that saw him score the game’s opening goal and a fine point in the second half eyebrows were raised when he was called ashore. As he was making his way off the pitch, it became apparent that Conlan was not the man Brian Breen and George Dugdale wanted to replace.
However, as Leitrim fans will recall from the Championship game in Ruislip when London’s goalscorer Padraig McGoldrick was replaced immediately after he had scored a goal once the paperwork for the substitution is handed in, the change cannot be altered.
After the game, Breen was asked if it was a paperwork error that led to Conlan being replaced and replied - “I don’t know, we were looking to take off James Glancy and Kevin Conlan came off and he was off before we knew what happened so I don’t know.”
Moments later Conlan was re-introduced and vindicated the decision of the managerial duo with another excellent point.
