Carrick to host West Coast Darts Challenge

The Leitrim Darts Organisation will host this year’s West Coast Challenge, in conjunction with the Bush Hotel on Saturday, January 23, with the Leitrim Open Singles the following day.

Hundreds of darts players will descend on Leitrim for the weekend bringing a welcome boost to the local economy. The last event of this nature was the Leitrim Observer sponsored Leitrim Open, National Mixed Pairs & National Men’s Singles in 1984/85.

This is a huge logistical undertaking for the local committee under chairman Brian Kelly, Secretary Pauline Crosbie & women’s committee chair Kathryn McTeague plus maintenance & transport manager Michael Crosbie.

There will be 20 plus stands to be erected. Work on this will start after a function finishes in the hotel on Friday morning at approximately 4am.

The five Connacht counties will be joined by Donegal, Longford, Clare & Limerick. The weekend kicks off with the team competition on Saturday. Games start at 12 noon sharp. The Leitrim Open is on Sunday, January 24, entries will be taken until 12 noon with games starting at 1pm.
