Ladies football in Leitrim is flying high at the moment with an unprecedented double success at the weekend for teams from the county.

On Saturday, the County Ladies team defeated Limerick 3-7 to 1-8 to reach the All-Ireland Intermediate Semi-Final next Saturday in Mullingar where they will face Ulster Champions Down in the Semi-Final, 1.30 throw-in.

After a five week break without a game, Leitrim struggled to produce their usual intensity but goals from Aine Heslin, Aine Tighe and Roisin Fowley put the Green & Gold in a commanding position, although manager Martin Dolan did single out the contribution of keeper Michelle Guckian as crucial to the win.

Leitrim will now be part of a televised double header on TG4 next Saturday, with the Senior game featuring Dublin and Galway in an intriguing clash.

A good weekend for Ladies football in the county got even better on Sunday when the Manorhamilton Area team stormed to the HSE National Community Games U12 title in Athlone, courtesy of hard a fought 3-7 to 3-5 victory, although there was some debate about the scoreline as most spectators had the Leitrim and Connacht Champions four point winnners.

In the semi-final, the Manorhamilton Area team, overwhelmed Sheelin of Cavan by 8-12 to 0-2 .
