Long awaited and eagerly anticipated, the big day is almost here as Leitrim travel to Hyde Park next Sunday to take on Roscommon in the Connacht Senior Championship.
Leitrim manager Sean Hagan sees his team enter the last few days of preparations ahead of Sunday’s Quarter-Final and despite a few injury blows, Sean is confident the Green & Gold fans will travel in big numbers to Hyde Park.
“There is no doubt, I don’t think it is even an issue,” said Sean when asked about Leitrim supporters getting behind the team, “they have given us great support all year. More supporters come out for championship football because the intensity level lifts but there is no doubt that Leitrim people will not let us down on that side of it.”
And the Leitrim manager is emphasising to his players just how important next Sunday’s clash with Roscommon is to any County footballer - “I said to the lads, when you finish playing football, you’ll be analysed by what you did as a championship footballer, it is a massive day for the all the guys.”
Leitrim’s preparations have been hit by the loss in recent weeks of Fergal Clancy and Ciaran Egan but Sean is happy with how the team’s preparations have gone - “I suppose in an ideal world, it is an awful blow but unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world and you will have those knocks during a championship build-up.
“Fergal is a massive loss and so is Ciaran. Our own preparations is going well enough and we’re pleased.”
