Ladies set to begin title defence

The Leitrim Ladies will begin the defence of their Connacht Intermediate Championship title on Saturday next, April 30 in Pairc Naomh Mhuire, Carrick-on-Shannon at 4pm.

A league campaign that promised much ultimately saw the ladies miss out on a place in the league final when they were defeated by Waterford but they have a chance to re-focus their efforts this weekend when they face Roscommon, who defeated Sligo last weekend.

Roscommon can book their place in the final with a win this weekend, while a Leitrim victory would mean the finalists would not be known until Leitrim and Sligo lock horns.

Speaking after Leitrim were defeated by Waterford in the League semi-final Leitrim manager Pat Costello said, “I think (for the Connacht championship) it is more or less to get our own house in order and play the best we possibly can.”
