Less than 24 hours before they were due to take on Carlow in the Lidl Ladies NFL Division 4, Leitrim Ladies GFA have announced that they have “parted company” with Senior team manager Gavin Cawley.

Cawley, who was appointed just ten days before the League started, is also the manager of the IT Sligo team and it appears from the statement that recent results led to the decision to part ways with the manager. Leitrim will take on Carlow on Sunday at 2pm in Philly McGuinness Park in Mohill in a must win game for the county.

In a press release issued just after 7pm on Saturday evening, the news was announced and leaves Leitrim in a limbo ahead of the remaining three games in the campaign.

The full text of the statement is as follows: “The Leitrim Ladies board have announced that they have parted company with manager Gavin Cawley.

“Cawley's tenure began with a promising four-point win over Derry in Division 4 but the team subsequently met defeat against Antrim, Louth and most recently Fermanagh, slipping outside of the semi-final spots into sixth place in the league.

“A Leitrim statement read: "We would like to thank Gavin for all of his hard work with the squad in recent months and wish him all of the best in his future endeavours. No further comment will be made on the matter."
