Leitrim Gaels 2-15

St Mary’s 0-4

St. Mary’s third string went into the contest with an outside chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals but once Leitrim Gaels got over the initial exchanges, they completely wiped out their fellow parishioners and strode confidently into the quarter-finals with plenty to spare.

Despite their high score-line, the most impressive sector of the field was not the attack for Leitrim Gaels bur rather the middle of the field where John Brennan and Conor Guckian dominated and gave the Gaels the platform for victory, Brennan in particular driving his team forward and giving a composed and disciplined performance.

The Leitrim Gaels defence also did well against a St. Mary’s attack that made them work far harder than the score-line suggests but in Anthony Mulvey, Ray O’Rourke and James Keane, they had a solid back-line that never gave up easy chances for the Carrick men.

Most impressive for the Gaels, however, was their long range shooting with Michael McManus, Aidan Flynn, Anthony Mulvey, Liam Moreton and John Brennan all scoring wonderful long range efforts that will give them real confidence for the rest of the championship.
