Wicklow manager Harry Murphy had a simple explanation for his side’s defeat - 16 wides as he commented “Obviously with 16 wides, it is not hard to see what went wrong. You can’t do what we did in the second half.”
Murphy continued “16 wides for us, four for them so you can’t win games if you kick that many wides. Some of them were uncontested chances. Earlier in the year, they were going over for us or into the back of the net but just today in the championship, it didn’t work out for us.
“But in fairness to Leitrim, with their game plan they stretched our defenders and we just couldn’t get a grip on them. We tried everything we could, we moved lads around but they still stretched us.”
