Melvin Gaels surrendered their title and were left cursing their own wastefulness as St. Mary’s knocked the defending champions out of the Connacht Gold Senior Championship.

The 2012 champions saw James Glancy make two vital contributions for the Carrick men, clawing a shot off the line in the first half and blocking a close range Peter McGowan shot in the second.
The introduction of Jimmy Guckian also proved vital for St. Mary’s as his physical presence saw his team get a grip around the middle of the field as his side scored seven unanswered points to book a semi-final encounter against Carrigallen next Saturday evening.
