Ciaran Egan will play no part in next Saturday’s All-Ireland Qualifier against Wicklow after joint manager Brian Breen revealed that the players had voted to exclude the Gortletteragh man from the County Senior football panel.
When asked by the Observer about the status of the Gortletteragh man, Brian revealed that the question of Egan’s return has been revisited by the squad last week.
“I don’t want to get too much into it but all I really will say and I’ve no problem saying it, it is a squad decision, it is not my or George’s decision and this is from the very first night.
“Ciaran is a nice lad, I’ve spoke to him that night about the whole thing and he understands but it is a long term thing that we have to try and set standards for the long term.
“You set a standard and you go by it, whether it is right or wrong. That is what we are doing but it was a squad decision. It was relooked at during the week and the status remains the same.”
