The phoney war, if you want to call it that, is almost over with the final round of Group games in the Connacht Gold Senior and Fox’s Monumentals Intermediate Club Championships next Saturday.

The phoney war, if you want to call it that, is almost over with the final round of Group games in the Connacht Gold Senior and Fox’s Monumentals Intermediate Club Championships next Saturday.

On a bumper night for club football in the county, phone lines will be buzzing as fans try to keep track of the action at the six venues which host double headers next Saturday.

With the top two teams in each group gaining automatic passage to the quarter-finals, the drama will be intense as any game could have a huge knock-on effect when it comes to the third placed teams and the relegation playoffs.

The best placed third team goes into the quarter-finals with the remaining third placed teams facing into an eighth place/relegation playoff so there is a huge amount at stake in literally every game with every score having potential huge knock-on effects.

It should all mean a lot of head-scratching as scoring averages and head to head records come into play. See page 69 for our big game previews.
