Meet the Sligo-Leitrim candidates: Des Guckian

Des Guckian, Independent, Sligo-Leitrim-South Donegal

A truly Independent councillor, I defend people attacked by “the system.” I have always opposed the FF/FG/”Ind” coalition who greedily attack me and try to totally disregard people’s rights.

I ask searching questions about Planning and cover-ups.

Central government refuses to give proper finances to our County Council to provide adequately for Housing, Roads etc.

Central government interferes in our Co Development Plans and in our budgets, but cares nothing about rural decline.

I am shocked by the claims of the present government that they have done a “good job.” Around 2011, Fianna Fáil, under Brian Cowen, in conjunction with rogue bankers, caused the economic crash. Mícheál Martin was a Minister then.

He and our Taoiseach want to pretend that all is good now, but we and our children have been handed an enormous debt to pay - all sorts of extra taxes, charges and levies. We have a low income economy, blasted by inflation.

What I want to see is People Power, like in the referendums, sweeping away those lying boasts.

Good people have got to stand up and take on those who want to destroy the freedoms our ancestors fought for.
