Delivery of a new Class B Fire appliance for Manorhamilton Fire station

Leitrim County Council recently received delivery of a new Class B fire appliance for the fire service. The new fire appliance was assigned to Manorhamilton fire station to replace their existing appliance. 

The purchase of this new fire appliance was part of a joint procurement contract for new fire appliances for the Western region.

Capital funding was received from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government for the new appliance and the total investment amounted to approximately €380,000.

The new fire appliance was constructed in Sidhean Teo in Spiddal in Galway to the highest possible standards. 

Commenting on the delivery of the new appliance to Leitrim, Council Chairperson, Cllr. Ita Reynolds Flynn welcomed the continued investment of capital funding in the fire services in Leitrim.

She complimented Director of Services, Vincent Dwyer and Chief Fire Officer, Finian Joyce and his staff for their efforts in securing funding for the new fire appliance for the county and for Manorhamilton in particular”.  

Lar Power, Chief Executive welcomed the arrival of the new appliance and thanked the current crew and former members and their families for their ongoing commitment and contribution to the local community over many years and wished them many years of safe operation with the new fire appliance.

Vincent Dwyer commented “the arrival of this new fire appliance is a most welcome addition to the resources of the fire service in Leitrim. Further capital investment in our fire fleet in the county will be forthcoming later this year.

Chief Fire Officer, Finian Joyce in welcoming the arrival of the new appliance was pleased that the fire service had increased its capability of dealing effectively with all types of risks in the county. 

He said, “This appliance is equipped with the most modern firefighting equipment, and this will improve the effectiveness of our fire crew in Manorhamilton in dealing with all types of incidents and is needed to keep our fleet up to date”. 

He thanked Conor Lynch SACFO for his hard work and attention to detail in producing a fire engine to such a high standard of workmanship and Sidhean Teo who built the new appliance He wished Station Officer Thomas McDonald and all the crew in Manorhamilton the best of luck with the new appliance in the months and years ahead”. 

The new appliance was blessed by the local parish priest Fr John Gilhooly. The new fire appliance will be put into operational use shortly.
