Ballinamore brings "9 to 5 The Musical" to life

Ballinamore Musical Society

Ballinamore Musical Society are back with a family-friendly Dolly Parton singing and dancing show which starts this weekend and runs for six nights.
‘9 to 5 The Musical’ is a hilarious story of friendship, infatuation, revenge and even a little romance at the offices of Consolidated Industries.

Violet, although the senior supervisor for many years, has been passed over for numerous promotions. Judy, newly separated and lacking in secretarial skills, now joins the workforce. Doralee, a sexy, happily married country girl, has captured the lusty attentions of her boss, the egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot, Franklin Hart. Meanwhile, Hart’s administrative assistant, Roz Keith, definitely has ‘the hots’ for her boss!
As time passes Violet, Doralee and Judy become disillusioned with Mr. Hart and, over a joint one evening, they each fantasise on ways to dispose of him. When things get out of hand back at the office, they hatch a plan to kidnap and imprison him at his own home while his wife, Missy, is away on holidays.

In Hart’s absence, they introduce major changes in the workplace including childcare, hour-long lunches, rehab etc. They also gather evidence of his double book-keeping systems which they hope will be enough to incriminate him. However, the President for Consolidated Industries, Mr. Tinsworthy, has other ideas for many of his employees.
Director Sean Creamer said this is a “very funny” and has opens with Dolly Parton's ‘9 to ‘ song which sets the tone for the show.

The experienced director has overseen numerous musicals and is looking forward to finally putting this show on in the newly renovated Island Theatre. The society were just weeks away from putting on this show in 2020 before Covid-19 hit with various restrictions.

He said the musical will “engage” the audience. Speaking to the Observer during rehearsals last week he praised his six lead actors who he said are incredibly suited to their roles.
The cast has 25 in total and they have been rehearsing music, song and choreographed dancing since last October. But there are many more behind the scenes helping the show and Sean Creamer thanked everyone involved for their dedication.
The Observer got a sneak peak of some of the scenes and shennanigans and can guarantee that audiences will be tapping their feet in their seats while laughing out loud as some well known locals take on hilarious roles. The show is suited for families and is a great family night out and anyone who works in an office will really enjoy the scenes.
