Cooking Up a Storm
The school was awash with delicious smells as some of our under 14 girls prepared an array of quick and healthy meals as a team for one of our Lidl Serious Sport activities. The girls travelled the short distance to their local Lidl where they stocked up on the essentials before returning back to the school, where the chopping and stirring commenced.
This idea was built around the ladies gaelic football key principles of trust, respect, teamwork and resilience. Thanks to Ms Dodd and Ms Guckian for all their help organising and sampling.

Lidl Serious Sport
Our U14, Junior and Senior Girls were out in force on Monday, February 13, with LGFA All Star Therese Scott for our final visit for Lidl Serious Sport initiative.
The girls had a great day learning from the best. They got to try out some new drills whilst identifying the other mental and physical benefits of being involved in team sports. Again thanks to Ms Dodd for all her help and support.

All roads lead to the All Irelands
The first and second-year basketball team, with their coach Mr Henry, had a great run in their regional finals on Tuesday, March 14th. With captain Scott Kerr, the second years had an excellent victory with a final score of 56-40 points against St. Gerald’s, Castlebar. The team will go on to represent the region in the All Irelands. Also a big congratulations to Scott Kerr who won MVP. Hard luck to our first years put up a very brave fight but were beaten by St. Gerald's.

Scott Kerr was awarded MVP.

Goggles at the ready
5th year chemistry students were busily developing their laboratory skills this week carrying out their first titration. What better way to engage with learning than getting hands on.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
Seachtain na Gaeilge is always a wonderful celebration in Carrick-on-Shannon CS, where students are always encouraged to use the ‘cúpla focal’ but this week in particular students were given the opportunity to immerse themselves in both the national language and culture.
Between ‘Speed Dating Comhrá’ to ‘Irish Person of the Millenia Election’, it was hard not to get caught up in the fun of it all. Thanks to the Irish department and staff for their hard work in organising a lovely start to Seachtain na Gaeilge.

World Book Day Winners
Well done to all those who were winners across the various competitions during World Book Day.

National Flag Day
On National Flag Day we celebrated the 175th anniversary of the first flying of the Irish Tricolour in Waterford by Thomas F. Meagher. In school, Mr Henry's 5th year History and LCA students raised the tricolour and students were presented with commemorative pins.

My Leaving Cert Applied Experience - By Amy Moody

I am a final year LCA student in Carrick-on-Shannon CS. I chose to do the Leaving Cert Applied because I’ve never been one who likes learning straight from a book, I like more practical hands-on work.
Leaving Cert Applied allowed me to explore subjects in a more practical way best suited to my skills. LCA also allows you to learn more about yourself and explore your passions. It also prepares you for life after school in the world of work. As part of LCA, every Friday we have work experience which gives you a taster of what working in your chosen field might be like.
I personally would recommend doing LCA to anyone. I have really enjoyed LCA and the experiences it’s given me.
