Sponsored silence to stop North Leitrim mining “devastation”

On Sunday, April 30 a Sponsored Silence fundraising event will be held at the Fulach Fiath Cafe at Manorhamilton Castle from 2pm to 4pm.

On Wednesday, May 19, 2022, Minister Eamon Ryan TD granted prospecting licences to a Canadian company to mine for gold, silver and base metals in 47 townlands in North Leitrim, which could lead to the devastation of Manorhamilton surrounding scenic beauty and poison the local countryside.

Treasure Leitrim was set up by concerned local residents who are shocked and dismayed at this decision, because of the threat to health, water and the destruction of the environment from this process which includes the use of highly toxic chemicals including arsenic and cyanide.
Donations can be made at the event or on the Treasure Leitrim Facebook Gofundme page.
