Cavan General Hospital
Confirmation that a design team is set to be appointed for the new oncology day unit at Cavan General Hospital has been welcomed by Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith.
Deputy Smith was informed by the Health Service Executive that a capital submission for a new oncology day unit at the hospital has been approved for inclusion in the HSE 2023 Capital Plan.
The HSE also said its Capital and Estates team is "in the process of procuring a design team to progress through the design and planning stages of this project".
Deputy Smith said: “I’m delighted that progress is being made in the delivery of oncology services at Cavan General Hospital.
“This is a very important project which includes the construction of a new three-storey extension block to the northern side of the existing front hospital entrance to provide an oncology unit, an upgrade of the existing pharmacy and a new aseptic compounding unit.
“Once completed it will be hugely beneficial for a large numbers of patients in Cavan/Monaghan and adjoining areas.
“At present staff work extremely hard providing a great service in inadequate accommodation which causes additional pressures for both patients and staff," the local deputy concluded.
