On Friday, June 9, the Four Masters school in Kinlough held an exciting and vibrant garden party. It was a wonderful, happy experience for everyone in the school community. Not one textbook in sight but lavish fresh organic produce to sample in our tranquil school garden.
This event was co-ordinated by Ms. Mitchell and the 5th Class gardening team who worked tirelessly to ensure it was a day no-one forgot. Our school grown organic crops were an immense hit with students and staff alike.
Ms. Mitchell and the 5th class gardening team had been meticulously preparing for this day since the beginning of the school year.
Cultivating the soil, sowing seeds and harvesting the crops to provide food for the highly anticipated garden party was distinctly evident throughout the year in the polytunnel and garden.
Each day the gardening team could be seen in our newly erected polytunnel, watering the plants and using only organic products, no pesticides or harmful sprays were utilised.
In early June, they reaped a fabulous crop of fruit and vegetables such as carrots, lettuce, potatoes, peas, cabbage, beetroot and strawberries.
This organic produce was then transformed into fabulous mouthwatering dishes such as rainbow salad, crunchy coleslaw, flavoursome orange and carrot sunshine salad, rosemary flavoured chips and boiled new potato salad and delicious strawberry jam.
All the classes had the opportunity to sample the school grown, delicious delights in our beautifully maintained garden on a charming, hot sunny day.
A warm heartfelt thank you to Ms. Mitchell, Mr. Gallagher, Ms. Corr, Mrs. Lee, Charlie, our wonderful caretaker and the energetic Gardening Team for their hard work and dedication.
Watch this space, Four Masters School might take the Bord Bia’s Bloom Gardening Show by storm into the future.
