The 225th Commemoration of The Battle of Ballinamuck Committee promises to be one of the biggest historical occasions in the midlands this year.
A new website goes live today with the full programme of activities and entertainment expected for the weekend of tributes to keep everyone up to date on the upcoming historical event.
The website will be our main information source for insight into the history and what lead up to the battle, a programme guide, where to find us, what to wear when you volunteer as a pikeman/pike woman and much more.
The Battle of Ballinamuck was the last engagement of the 1798 Rebellion of the United Irishmen in Ireland. It took place on 8 September 1798 and marked the defeat of the main force of the French incursion, with some 500 Irish rebels and French troops believed to be buried in a mass grave at the top of Shanmullagh Hill in Ballinamuck.
The commemoration runs from 7-10 September 2023 and promises to be one of the biggest historical occasions of the year.
