As part of Biodiversity Week members of Dromahair Anglers Association, Dromahair Development Association and sports fans at DARC, especially from the GAA, organised a family day.
It focused on river water and natural life in the community park, where sports activities take place seasonally. Gabriel McFadden of the Anglers Association showed young people how to cast a line.
Another adult showed water samples from the river with plants, insects and mayflies.
Tina Pommer of Manorhamilton, an expert on wild mushrooms, wild herbs and other edible things, took groups of parents and young children on an informal nature observation around the path that winds its way on the park perimeter.
Carol O’Brien and her daughter Chloe from Drumkeerin displayed flowers and offered seeds and small pots to children for planting in back gardens, school grounds and other spaces. Barbeque food and refreshments were available.
