The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon is certainly the place to be this Autumn for any budding writers, prolific poets or anyone who really wants to get their writing skills to the next level.
With opportunities to meet other like minded creative folk, share your enthusiasm for the written and spoken word, and offer support for anyone else who has a story to share.
Kicking off on Saturday, September 9, 2023, 11am–12.30pm, Writers at The Dock continue their ongoing residency.
These popular weekly workshops are open to anyone who is interested in writing. Writers at The Dock was established by author and poet Gerry Boland to meet the needs of writers who wish to develop their writing skills.
All enquiries are directly to Gerry at 087 6397557 or gerry.boland@gmail.com.
Word Corner is a monthly writers’ community event for people to share poems, stories, occasionally songs, and it has been taking place at The Dock for practically a decade.
Having started off as an experiment, the Jury Room Café at The Dock was made available to a group of brave souls, who shared a love of writing but perhaps a sense of trepidation when it came to sharing their work.
Over the years the group has gained new writers, lost one of two, but continues to evolve and offer a supportive community for those who want to write and share their musings.
Taking place on the second Tuesday of the month, the next gathering will happen on Tuesday 12 September 2023, 5.30–7pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Reading and Writing Poetry starts this Wednesday, 13 September 2023, at 11am. During this six-week poetry course, facilitated by poet Gerry Boland, participants will write six new poems and come away with a deeper understanding of how to proceed in their poetic journey.
You can contact The Dock directly for further information or to make a booking. Tel: 071 96 50 828 or book directly at www.thedock.ie.
