Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire
A response to a query from Cllr Finola Armstrong-McGuire pertaining to physiotherapy services in Mohill stated that due to the upcoming retirement of the physiotherapist in Mohill and the “current constraints on available resources, physiotherapy referrals from the Mohill area are to be temporarily accommodated in either the Carrick-on-Shannon primary and mental health care centre or the Ballinamore primary care centre.
Cllr Armstrong-McGuire had submitted the query to the HSE's Head of Service Primary Care Cavan Donegal Leitrim Monaghan Sligo.
At a meeting of the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District last Monday, the response from the HSE was delivered to the elected members.
The response continued that all referral sources from the Mohill area were informed, via letter and email, on June 28, 2023, of the temporary arrangement.
“Whilst I appreciate that this may cause disruption for some service users requiring physiotherapy, the decision to redirect referrals ensures the continuation of treatment for service users from the Mohill area, as an interim measure.
“There is an existing CHO1 panel for a senior musculoskeletal physiotherapist post. It is anticipated that the successful candidate for the vacant physiotherapist post in Mohill will be selected from this panel.
“The relevant paperwork has been submitted to allow the recruitment process to take place and it hoped to have a replacement post filled within the coming months,” the reply concluded.
Cllr Des Guckian said that the Council should write back to the HSE and ask them “to make this appointment immediately,” with the other members agreeing to the proposal.
