Leitrim writer and farmer Gerry Bohan launches his first book of short stories on September 16 at The Dock in Carrick on Shannon.

Fresh from the Drumshanbo Written Word Festival that took place in August, ‘The Clainings Tree and Other Stories from the Heart of Leitrim’ is a collection of eight short stories published by the Drumshanbo Written Word Press.

Gerry is from Mohill and wrote both comical and poignant stories that are a social commentary portrait on the traditional customs and practices that are still alive in Leitrim today.

The book is ‘positioned on the cusp of a ‘New Ireland’ and embedded in the Leitrim landscape, these stories bring forward and revive ancient lore’.

Having been endorsed by two of the county’s finest creative forces, Seamus O’Rourke and Edwina Guckian, there is no excuse not to get your hands on this fine book.

Seamus O’Rourke said: “Gerry Bohan sees the world like no other – he has a knack of conjuring memories and long-forgotten emotions”.

“Bohan’s content is rooted and rich in his landscape – where the simple way of life is everything”, said Edwina Guckian.

‘The Clainings Tree and Other Stories from the Heart of Leitrim’ event is free, and all are welcome. Come along to The Dock on Saturday, September 16, from 1-2pm.
