Glencar Manorhamilton may be the undisputed queens of Leitrim football but for Aoife Gilmartin and her teammates, their fourth Gotham Dry Wall Senior A title was not about dynasties but more about remembering where they came from.

Player of the match Aoife landed two vital points in the 2-8 to 2-4 victory over St Joseph’s last Saturday in Shane McGettigan Park as Glencar Manorhamilton had to withstand a ferocious St Joseph’s challenge to lift their fourth crown in a row.

Asked what keeps driving the four in a row champions on, particularly as they went into the championship as hot favourites, Aoife reveals the memory of where they came from still inspires this Glencar Manorhamilton team: “I suppose we always remember where we came from. We might have done four in a row now but it was our first time to win the Senior championship the first year that we won it.

“We always go back to our roots and we don’t forget that all the girls over the past few years, they’ve built up the team and the management as well, putting in all the work with us and we’re so thankful for that. It can be a thankless job but thankfully we have girls coming up through the development squads as well so we’re really, really lucky that everyone puts in the hard work in the club.”

Aoife also felt that Glencar Manorhamilton showed real resolve as she paid tribute to opponents St Joseph’s: “I’m really delighted with the team’s performance, especially in the second half when St Joseph’s really, really put it up to us, they put it up to us for the whole game but they had a really good spell there in the second half.

“It really took a lot of heart for us to come out of that and thankfully we did because I think it is in times like that, then a true team shows themselves. Fair play to St Joseph’s as well, they really put it up to us today, they are a brilliant team and a brilliant side to play against.
