Fr John McTiernan celebrates his Golden Jubilee

A mass of thanksgiving was recently celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Belturbet to make the Golden Jubilee of the ordination of Fr John McTiernan to the priesthood.

Fr McTiernan is a native of Moneenatieve, Drumkeerin, Co Leitrim and was ordained in 1973. He joined the teaching staff of St Patrick's College, Cavan in 1974. He was appointed President of the College in 1990. He took a sabbatical from 1997 to 1998.

Fr McTiernan was then assigned to the parish of Dromahair-Killargue and remained there until 2015 before moving to the parish of Annagh where he remains to this present day.

Fr McTiernan's Golden Jubilee mass was attended by a large congregation as well as Bishop of Kilmore, Martin Hayes, Bishop Leo O'Reilly, fellow priests, family, friends and neighbours.

He is pictured here (front centre) with both Bishops as well as Fr Eamon Lynch and Fr Brian Flynn who were two of his classmates ordained for the Diocese of Kilmore in 1993.
