Carrick Winter Fair divided into two events

The Midland & Western Livestock Improvement Society, Carrick-on- Shannon has divided their Winter Fair 2023 into two events to allow for the safety and welfare of both exhibitors and animals and entries for the event justifies their decision.

On Monday, November 20th, the Classes and Sale of Senior Cattle happens with judging at 9a.m. and the Sale at 1p.m.

There are 114 animals on Show on the 20th with 40 Limousin X Breeding Heifers being the biggest entry in Class 12, followed by 22 Belgian Blue X Heifers retaining calf’s mouth in Class 7.

The following weekend, Sunday, November 26th, and Monday, November 27th sees 414 weanlings of all Breeds on Show and for Sale – Charolais, Limousin, Belgian Blue, Simmental, Angus, Shorthorn, Hereford and Parthenaise.

The Show on Sunday commences with the Young Stockperson Class at 11 o’clock and with 35 enthusiastic entrants there is great confidence that farming and exhibiting livestock will always be with us.

After this Class is judged there will be two judging Rings established to go through the Showing Classes.

Indeed some of the Classes will need to have the facility of one large ring as there are 86 in the Belgian Blue X Female 450kgs.
Class, 68 in the Limousin X Female Calf 450kgs Class, 55 in the Limousin Female X Calf 350kgs Class and 51 in the Belgian Blue X Female Calf 450kgs Class.

The sale for weanlings commences at 11 o’clock on Monday in Catalogue order. The sale is online also and prospective buyers can register on the LSLS App for Midland & Western, before the 20th or the 27th, but no registrations will be taken on Sale Days.
