Drumshanbo
Cllr Des Guckian said the through road L 7386-0 from Aughriman towards Drumshanbo town has grass in the middle and asked that it be removed and the road be resurfaced and lay-bys provided at suitable intervals.
He was speaking at the latest Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district meeting.
A report by the roads office said that "we do not remove the central grassed area or provide additional lay-bys unless the road is receiving an approved RIG or RMG or drainage grant.
"Removing the grassed central area will weaken the road surface. This road is currently not on the 3 year programme. The next 3 year roads programme will be put forward to elected members for approval next October."
Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Cllr Guckian said that this "just wasn't good enough" and "holding it back until next October is just unacceptable to me and certainly not acceptable to the people who have to bear that."
He said the grass in the middle of the road is "a clear example of neglect" and said that Aughriman was "just one example of this neglect" on the boundaries of Drumshanbo.
He continued saying that "people are travelling on a very narrow road and there are no lay-bys for a long distance; for a mile in places."
He stated: "Here is a clear through road joining right into the town and it does not have reasonable accommodation for cars and lorries, etc."
