Cllr Sean McDermott asked that toilet facilities be provided by Leitrim County Council at the children's playground, Castle Street, Manorhamilton.
He said that in recent years there has been many welcome developments at this location which increases the need for toilet facilities.
"As an interim solution I am asking that port-a-loos be installed and then as a permanent solution permanent toilets could be incorporated into the proposed outdoor theatre/concert space at the nearby castle which could also be available to those using this playground," he suggested.
He noted that there are "works being planned at the castle and maybe toilet facilities could be built into that plan for the fairgreen."
A report by Economic Development section said that Leitrim County Council is not in a position to provide temporary toilet facilities at its playgrounds around the county.
The response continued: "It is envisaged that the Manorhamilton town team will shortly be involved in the preparation of Manorhamilton Town Centre First plan which will prioritise the projects that it wishes to see advanced in Manorhamilton over the medium term.
"If desired by the town team, the inclusion of permanent toilets could form part of the outdoor theatre space project which is currently at development stage."
Cllr McDermott added that it was "a very busy playground".
Cllr Felim Gurn, who is involved in the castle project, supported the motion noting that "it's a great hub for people with a state-of-the-art playground" adding that "you see a lot of parents with children using the playground" and suggested positioning toilets in the nearby green space.
Cllr Mary Bohan also supported the motion saying "it is a very heavily populated area so it would be good if that could be part of the scheme."
Cllr Padraig Fallon also voiced his support.
