Night time restrictions as Uisce Éireann appeals to customers in South Leitrim to conserve water

Uisce Éireann continues to work to restore normal water supply to customers across South Leitrim with night time restrictions necessary in some areas. 

Customers in Drumshanbo, Ballinamore, Mohill, Carrigallen, Drumreilly, Gortletteragh and Newtowngore continue to experience water outages due to power failures at Mong Reservoir in Kiltoghert.

Alternative supplies are available with the locations listed below. (Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure, as per Health Service Executive advice.)

However, in order to ensure a normal daytime supply to as many customers as possible, night time restrictions are necessary in the Drumshanbo, Ballinamore, Mohill and Carrigallen areas from 11pm tonight, Tuesday, 23 January to 7am tomorrow morning, Wednesday, 24 January.

As a result of the restrictions, customers on the South Leitrim Regional Water Supply Scheme may experience reduced pressure and/or outages.

Peadar Griffin, Water Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann thanked the people of South Leitrim for their patience. 

“I can assure customers our crews are doing everything in their power to recharge the network as quickly as possible and restore a normal supply to the region. These nighttime restrictions are necessary so we can return a normal daytime supply to the entire area as quickly as possible.”

He appealed to homes and businesses to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. Further information on water conservation is available on our website at www.water/conserve.

Customers are also urged to check water.ie and or report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts. Live updates on outages are also available on X @IW_Care.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
