Work is to commence this week on the installation of a charging point in Blacklion for electric vehicles.
Cllr. John Paul Feeley has welcomed the news, highlighting the need for more charging points as electric cars become increasingly popular.
“Blacklion is just one of many locations where charging points are needed. There are now charging points installed in Cavan town, Belturbet and Ballyconnell,” he said.
The project at the Shannon Pot, which will go to construction in the coming weeks, includes a number of charging points, and additional charging points are included in the plans for the Fairgreen in Blacklion.
Cllr. John Paul Feeley added: “The reality is that we need to ensure that every town and village has electric charging points as well as some of the more heavily visited sites in the Geopark.
“If, as we are told, EVs are the future then the network of charging points needs to be in place to give drivers the reassurance they need as they drive in all parts of the country.”
The installation work should only take about a week to complete; thereafter, the charging point has to be connected by ESB Networks, which is likely to take some time.
