Flood warning for the Stranorlar-Killygordon Road

Heavy and continuous rainfall caused significant damage to roads in Leitrim.

In response to the persistent rainfall experienced over the winter and spring months, the Government has announced an emergency investment aimed at supporting local authorities in the maintenance and renewal of the regional and local road network.
This funding is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring safe and reliable infrastructure across the country.
The heavy and continuous rainfall has caused significant damage to roads in many areas, with water seepage leading to the development of potholes and even pavement collapse. T
o address these urgent issues, Leitrim County Council has been awarded €671,000. This funding will enable the Council to carry out necessary repairs and maintenance on the most severely impacted sections of the road network.
Adam Ó Ceallaigh, Green Party Candidate for Leitrim County Council, welcomed the emergency investment, stating, "We are extremely grateful for this timely and much-needed support from the Government. The persistent wet conditions over the past several months have taken a heavy toll on our roads, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and residents.
"This funding will allow us to address the worst-affected areas, ensuring safer and more reliable travel for everyone in our community. It is a crucial step in maintaining and enhancing our local infrastructure, and we appreciate the Government’s commitment to supporting our efforts."
The allocated funds will be used immediately to tackle the most urgent repairs, with a focus on restoring and improving the road conditions for all users.

Deputy Frank Feighan has also welcomed the local allocation of funding €671,000 for Leitrim County Council and €844,000 for Sligo County Council stating, “This is a welcome boost for local authorities which are challenged with the increase in material costs and the impact of excessive water gathering on our local roads.

“It is really important to keep our roads up to a proper standard for our rural dwellers and I am confident this extra allocation will help in that endeavour”, concluded Deputy Feighan.
