Newly elected Sinn Féin councillor Róisín Kenny, who ran in the Ballinamore LEA won a seat on Leitrim County Council on the seventh count.

Kenny, who is a sister of Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny, was running as a first time candidate. “I'm absolutely delighted. I'm over the moon to have made it, it was such a close contest between myself and my running mate Joanne Curnan. I want to commend Joanne on her campaign. It was fantastic and I'm sure she'll be there to fight another day,” said Róisín.

Along with housing, Kenny would like to see improvements in mental health and addiction services in Leitrim. “I'd like to see more counselling available locally for people who are struggling with mental health issues. It shouldn't be left to organisations or charities to have to raise money for services for people that are struggling.

“Addiction services are also practically non-existent in the county. That's a very important issue for me.”
