Sligo Rovers and Immigrant Council of Ireland team up to deliver Anti-Racism Workshops in local schools

Fourth class pupils at Scoil Ursula engaged in anti-racism workshops as part of the Rovers Football and Social Responsibility Programme.

Sligo Rovers in collaboration with the Immigrant Council of Ireland last Friday delivered anti-racism workshops in Scoil Ursula in Sligo town as part of the Show Racism The Red Card campaign.

The workshops which were given to the 4th class pupils of the school were also accompanied by football sessions. It is an initiative that will be offered to other schools in the region in the new school year in September and October as part of the Rovers Football and Social Responsibility (FSR) programme.

Rovers FSR officer Jamie Murphy said: “The issue of racism and discrimination is something unfortunately that occurs on a daily basis in our society and is something we all have a responsibility to challenge whether it’s in the workplace, schools or sports clubs.

"As a community club, it's a hugely important issue for Rovers. While it can be a difficult topic we were hugely heartened by the response, knowledge and engagement of the pupils at Scoil Ursula and are looking forward to visiting more schools in September."
