The Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys TD officially opened the ‘Access to the Sea Project’ in the picturesque seaside village of Tullaghan today.
Located on the Wild Atlantic Way, the new ‘Access to the Sea Project’ provides public access to Leitrim’s only piece of coastline.
An investment of almost €200,000 under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme enabled the development of an accessible roadway, car park, and seating to take in the breath-taking views.
‘Access to the Sea’ was delivered by the local authority, working in partnership with the community, to develop an amenity that will attract visitors, bus tours, surfers and boaters.

Speaking in Tullaghan, Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys TD said:
“It’s lovely to see places like Tullaghan develop and improve on their own natural beauty with the Wild Atlantic Way to the North and the majestic Ben Whisken to the south.
“This wonderful project is a huge addition to the locality and further afield and it adds another dimension to the already magnificent coastline of North Sligo, Leitrim and South Donegal.
“The improvements you have made to this part of the coastline will not only enhance the quality of life for locals and visitors who will no doubt flock to the area.
“I would like to thank all those involved for all their hard work in bringing this project to fruition.”
Minister Humphreys also announced an expansion of the Mountain Access Project at the National Outdoor Recreation Conference in Sligo on Thursday, 27 June, 2024.
