€1,066m announced for Leitrim projects under the 2024 Community Recognition Fund

A further €1.1 million is still to be allocated to Co. Leitrim

An extra €1,066,000 has been designated to support projects in County Leitrim through the Community Recognition Fund, on top of the previously allocated €2.2 million.

The Community Recognition Fund was first introduced last year to recognise the huge efforts made by communities in welcoming and supporting people coming to Ireland.

The Minister for Rural & Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, together with her colleague Minister Joe O Brien, have today announced the further funding.

Deputy Frank Feighan has welcomed funding for five projects in Leitrim which will enhance local sports, community and leisure facilities.

The projects funded are:

- Ballinamore Area Community Council Clg for the Upgrade of Ballinamore Sports Complex, €357,877.
- Carrick-on-Shannon Tennis Club to assist in the provision of their Clubhouse Construction Project, €208,600.
- Carrigallen GAA and Healthy Club. Their project provides for an Attic Conversion and Disability Access, €210,910.
- Manorhamilton Bee Park Resource Centre Ltd., Upgrading of the Bee Park Community Centre €82,220.
- Allen Gaels GAA Club, Drumshanbo, provide funding for the Installation of Astro Turf facilities, €207,275.

“The Community Integration Fund is a great opportunity for local communities to review their facilities including recreation and sporting clubs.

“There still is a further €1.1m to be allocated from the original allocation from Minister Humphreys of €2.2m for Co Leitrim.

“I understand that funds are targeted in communities who currently are hosting and have welcomed people from Ukraine and other countries.

“From representations I have received many communities feel that their local services are impacted in some cases, this is a further opportunity for communities who are not successful on this occasion to engage with Leitrim Co Council and consider opportunities now to look at projects within their village or parish that need upgrading,” concluded Deputy Feighan.
