The new path will run 1.1km along the Narrow-Gauge Railway line in Drumshanbo linking up the already existing network of scenic walking and cycling paths around the town.
“This is going to be a fantastic compliment to what we have there already,” said Cllr McGloin.
Construction on the project which is set to cost €400,000 will begin early next year, according to Mr McGloin.
Cllr McGloin is confident that this development will add to the area. “The walkways we have presently are so embraced, by natives and visitors alike, that I think this will bring even further opportunities to attract tourism and the health and well being of the people of Drumshanbo will be further enhanced by having this facility,” he said.
