The camp is aimed at providing educational support, fostering social inclusion, and helping kids maintain connections to their cultural heritage for a smooth transition into life in Leitrim.
The camp will take place every Saturday from 11AM to 3PM at the Breffni Family Resource Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon.
It will provide educational support in core subjects to help children adapt to the Irish school system while reinforcing their knowledge of the Ukrainian language, culture, and traditions.
It will also promote opportunities for social interactions while providing an introduction to Irish culture, language lessons, arts and crafts, and promote mutual understanding and appreciation within the broader Leitrim community.
Courses will be provided by Garda-vetted facilitators from Ukraine who are experienced working with children.
“We believe this community-driven initiative will support these children's educational and emotional needs and foster a cultural exchange, enriching the entire Leitrim community,” said Nataliya Byelyakova, camp Co-ordinator.
The camp is funded by Leitrim Development Company’s Social Inclusion and Community
Activation Programme (SICAP).
