The Organic Centre, Rossinver
Locals are being welcomed to join the Organic Centre in Rossinver this Sunday, September 29 for their Apple Day Harvest Festival.
The annual festival has something for everyone, and draws large crowds each year. As always, the event is free of charge.
This year's Apple Day will take place from 12pm until 4pm, featuring a variety of stalls, talks and tours.
The Organic Centre’s resident apple expert Phil Wheal will be giving a talk on the day, while botanist Maria Cullen will discuss the threat of fire blight to natural hawthorns and apple trees.
An information stand featuring Robert Wheeldon from the National Parks and Wildlife Service will also be available, where visitors can learn about local wildlife, including ospreys.
Meanwhile, the ‘Leitrim Women Through Time’ exhibition will be onsite to view all day.
Apple Day is set to have bustling stalls of sustainable crafts indoors and outdoors around the building. There will also be craft demos, stone carving, weaving and wool spinning along with the Organic Centre’s highlight attraction - apple pressing.
The festival is a great opportunity for a family day out, with heritage games from ‘Heritage Crafts Alive,’ and a nature walk with Fiona Wheeldon, founder of Green Shoots playgroup and former ranger.
Artist Sarah Lundy will be doing crafts and there will be live music and a menu filled with apple-themed treats at the Grass Roof Cafe.
