Drivers in county Leitrim have been warned to slow down outside national schools around the county, after a motorist was caught driving over twice the speed limit.
The driver was detected committing the offence outside a national school in Leitrim in recent days.
The motorist was caught traveling at 116kmh in a 50kmh speed zone in recent days.
A spokesperson for Leitrim gardaí said: “Sligo/Leitrim Roads Policing Unit have issued an appeal for drivers to slow down after conducting Speed Checks outside some of Leitrim's National schools.
"One driver was detected doing 116kmh in a 50kmh speed zone.
"Drivers caught driving over the speed limit will be issued with Fixed Charge Penalty Notices.”
A conviction will result in a fine and penalty points on the driver’s licence.
