Met Eireann weekend weather forecast with Storm Ashley set to hit Ireland

ESB crews are working to repair the outages

Hundreds of houses in Leitrim were without electricity on Sunday evening as Storm Ashley battered the country.

There were also a number of fallen trees reported around the county.

A Leitrim alert advised that there was a tree down on R199 between Ballinamore and Newtowngore earlier on Sunday while there was also a tree down at Aghnahunshin, Rooskey. The public was advised to exercise care.

Orange- and Yellow- level winds associated with Storm Ashley led to power outages impacting on 53,000 homes, farms and businesses this evening, predominantly in counties along the Western Seaboard.

The worst impacted areas include Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Clare and Kerry, as well as North Cork and North Dublin. ESB Networks crews and contractors are deployed and restoring power in impacted areas where safe to do so.

Further outages in the coming hours can be expected as the storm tracks north, with Met Éireann wind warnings remaining in place until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

In one area of Mohill, 68 houses were without electricity, with power not expected to be restored until Monday afternoon.

There were two separate faults reported in Carrick-on-Shannon which affected 96 properties, with the restoration of power estimated by 2pm on Monday, October 21.

Over 50 houses in Carrigallen were also reported to be without power and also had an estimated restoration time of 2pm on Monday.

A Status Orange wind was in place for Leitrim until 8pm on Sunday evening.
