Women earn more than men in Leitrim Co Council, a Gender Pay Gap Report for 2024 published by the local authority has found.
The gender pay gap is the difference in the average hourly wage of all men and women across a workforce.
The 2024 report shows a Mean Gender Pay Gap of -5.4 percent meaning that, on average, women are paid 5.4 percent more than men.
The Median Gender Pay Gap shows that the median rate of pay for women is 17.06 higher higher than the median rate of pay for men.
This doesn’t mean that men are paid less than women for doing the same job, but it does indicate that, on average, women occupy somewhat higher paid roles than men.
Under the Gender Pay Gap Information Act of 2021, organisations with more than 150 employees are required to report their gender pay gap within six months of their reference date.
Leitrim County Council, and all local authorities nationwide, chose June 30, 2024 as the reference date.
This marks the third year of mandatory reporting under the act.
“Publishing the gender pay gap data helps to reinforce the Council’s focus on supporting an open and inclusive workplace at Leitrim County Council,” the council outlined.
“Our organisation is a place where all employees have the same opportunities for recognition and career development and are treated fairly and equitably at work,” a spokesperson stated.
“We continue to be committed to addressing workplace barriers to equality and creating an open and inclusive workplace community. Many equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives and supports are already in place, and we will continue to work in this area.”
“As an employer, Leitrim County Council is committed to providing a positive and supportive environment for employees. The Council offers flexible and family friendly arrangements, blended working, and great career progression and education opportunities.”
