The President of the Carrick-on-Shannon Chamber of Commerce has issued a plea to the public to avoid leaving rubbish beside bring-banks, as some collection sites in the town are struggling to cope with a surge in use.
The bring-banks, which provide a convenient way for residents to recycle and donate items, have recently been overwhelmed by public contributions. As a result, several sites have become overcrowded, leading some individuals to leave waste next to the full bins.
Finola Armstrong Maguire, a local businesswoman and president of the Carrick Chamber, emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal. “If a bring-bank is full, we strongly encourage people to take their waste home and return at a later time,” she said. “Dumping rubbish outside the banks creates an unsightly and unhygienic environment for everyone.”
The Chamber President also highlighted the need for increased awareness and responsibility among the community. She noted that improper use of the bring-banks could undermine their purpose and create additional challenges for local authorities tasked with maintaining these facilities.
Residents are reminded to check the availability of space at bring-banks before attempting to offload their items and to respect the guidelines in place to ensure the smooth operation of these services.
For more information on recycling and waste disposal in Carrick-on-Shannon, residents are encouraged to contact their local council or visit the Carrick Chamber’s website.
