Caira Ryan, a 38-year-old mother from Killargue, Dromahair, is courageously battling recurrent Stage 4 HER2-positive breast cancer. With limited options available locally, Caira has launched a heartfelt appeal for donations through her IDonate page to fund advanced treatment in Spain and Germany.
She lives with her partner Darran and their four-year-old son Kyrie, whose love fuels her determination to seek treatment abroad.
Caira explains her condition: “The cancer has metastasized to the lymph nodes under my arm and neck, both lungs, a bone in my spine, a bone in my pelvis, and my brain. The tumor in my breast has grown through the skin, creating an ulcerated wound. This causes me constant pain, and I rely on regular pain medication under palliative care just to get through each day and continue being a mum to Kyrie.”
While she has started on a targeted drug, it is not enough to fully manage her condition, particularly the cancer in her brain. After researching all available options, Caira has decided to pursue innovative treatments in Europe, which combine advanced medical therapies with holistic care.
“Europe offers cutting-edge cancer therapies and is much closer to home than other options, which reduces travel stress and allows my family to support me,” she shares. The cost of treatment in Europe is also significantly lower, enabling her to reduce her fundraising target from €70,000 to €55,000.
The funds will help cover travel to Spain and Germany, her personalized treatment plan, hospital stays, follow-up care, and holistic therapies aimed at improving her quality of life.
Caira is urgently appealing for help to meet her fundraising target. “Time is not on my side, and I need to raise these funds to access life-saving treatment. Every donation, no matter the size, brings me closer to my goal. Your generosity can give me the chance to heal, regain my health, and continue being a mum to Kyrie and a partner to Darran.”
Caira has already raised €15,368 but urgently needs additional support to reach her goal. To donate and help Caira access the treatment she desperately needs, visit her IDonate page.
