Leitrim CLLR ‘Disappointed’ by lack of Leitrim representation in Seanad

Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Paddy O’Rourke has expressed his disappointment at the absence of representation of representation for the county following the Seanad elections.

Cllr O’Rourke ran for a spot on the Agricultural panel in the Seanad elections this year but has missed out on a seat. He also ran for the Dáil in the general election at the end of last year but was unsuccessful.

Mr O’Rourke told Shannonside that he felt that it was not a good sign for Leitrim and that the county would be at a disadvantage due to the lack of representation in the Seanad.

“We are a part of Sligo-Leitrim-South Donegal and there are a lot of competing interests which is perfectly understandable, but you have to wonder, who is there batting for Leitrim,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sligo Councilor Nessa Cosgrove won election to the Seanad yesterday as part of the 11-seat Labour panel.
