Met Éireann warns of strong winds and heavy rain from early Sunday

Status Yellow Weather Warning Issued for Leitrim and West

A Status Yellow wind and rain warning has been issued for Leitrim and 11 other counties this weekend, with Met Éireann cautioning that very strong gusts and heavy rainfall could lead to hazardous conditions.

The warning will be in effect from 2:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2025, with Leitrim, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo among the most affected counties.

The agency is warning residents of difficult driving conditions, especially on rural and exposed roads, localised flooding in low-lying areas, fallen trees and loose debris posing risks to motorists and pedestrians, and poor visibility, particularly during heavy downpours.

Authorities are advising residents to secure outdoor items, prepare for potential power outages, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm conditions.

Met Éireann has urged people to stay updated on weather alerts and travel disruptions as conditions develop.
