Samba Band set to entertain at Leitrim Village St Patrick's Day parade

Samba Band set to entertain at Leitrim Village St Patrick's Day parade

It's that time of the year again when the towns and villages of Ireland are gearing up for Lá Fhéile Pádraig, and are getting ready for their St. Patrick's Day parades. Plans are well under way in Leitrim Village, with organisers hoping to draw the crowds and lift the spirits of all.

The Bula Bula Samba Band is ready to kick off the parade at 3pm on Monday, March 17th. Beidh imeachtaí agus gníomhaíocht don teaglach ar fad (events and activities for the whole family).

There will be free Face-Painting for children in St. Joseph’s Centre, following 10.15am Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, as well as a community Meet ‘n Greet session of Teas/coffees and light refreshments in St. Joseph’s Centre, all courtesy of The Leitrim Inn and Blueway Lodge.

If anyone would like to make a practical contribution to this event, savoury bites or baked goods would be most welcome…just bring them along after Mass.

There will be lots of street entertainment for all the family (with Irish dancing, magic and music from Wallop the Spot), with the reviewing stand under the tree, at the village pump/Keadue Rd. Junction.

It is hoped that many of the local businesses, clubs, groups etc. will think about participating in the parade and supporting this lovely community event, to showcase all that is good in our area.

The sky is the limit when it comes to ideas for parade participation…the more novel, the better! You may enter a ‘float’, come on foot, pedal power, wheels, horseback, …whatever takes your fancy!

Entries for the parade will be gathering at Holly Park, on the Carrick Road, at 2.30pm. Participation is free of charge. For now, all you need to do is text (089 6051704), with a rough idea of what type of parade entry you are planning, the name of your group/club/business, as well as a contact name and number.

The organisers will get back to you to finalise arrangements for the day. There will be prizes in various categories: Most Creative; Funniest Entry; Best Environmental; Best Club/Organisation.

As events such as this incur considerable expense (Insurance, entertainers etc.,) all donations to help defray the cost would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be given in to the Post Office, in an envelope marked for the attention of Leitrim Village Development.

All donors/sponsors will be acknowledged in the Leitrim Observer. Finally, all ideas and offers of help with stewarding the event, etc., would be gratefully appreciated (text 089 6051704).
