Sinn Féin to hold Easter Sunday commemoration in Leitrim

Deputy Pádraig MacLochlainn to speak at annual event honouring those who died for Irish freedom in 1916 and beyond

Leitrim's Easter Commemoration to be held next Sunday

The Kiltubrid Pipe Band will lead the parade in Mohill

A commemoration for those who fought in the 1916 Easter Rising will take place in Mohill this Sunday.

The annual event, organised by Sinn Féin, will see republicans from across Leitrim  and beyond gather to honour those who died for Irish freedom in 1916 and in every generation since.

The parade will assemble at 2:45 p.m. on Station Road, opposite Centra, before proceeding to the Old Cemetery. There, a ceremony will take place at the graveside of Joe O'Beirne from Currycramp, who was killed in action during the Selton Hill ambush on March 11th, 1921.

Donegal TD Pádraig MacLochlainn, Sinn Féin’s Chief Whip in the Dáil and Spokesperson on Fisheries and the Marine, will address the gathering.

The parade will also feature members of the Kiltubrid Pipe Band.

Following the ceremony, music and refreshments will be available in Peter Carroll’s pub in Mohill town.
