Officials greet Minister Dara Calleary TD on April 24.
A major new chapter has begun for Dromahair with the official opening of a €1.7 million state-of-the-art Library and Digital Hub by Minister Dara Calleary TD on April 24.
The project, led by Leitrim County Council and funded through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, replaces the former two-storey hotel with a modern, two-storey public facility. Covering approximately 500 square metres, the new building is located within Dromahair’s designated Architectural Conservation Area and is designed to serve as a vibrant hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement.
The library offers a wide range of services, including a reference and study space, computer area, workshop and activity rooms, listening and viewing facilities, exhibition space, multipurpose meeting rooms, office and staff areas, a communications room, public toilets, and storage facilities. Extensive site works were also completed, providing new footpaths, internal roads, car and bicycle parking, street lighting, landscaped areas, and upgraded drainage and utility connections.
At his final engagement of a busy day touring Leitrim, Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary TD officially opened the new Dromahair Library and Digital Hub, describing it as a major investment in rural life. “Enormous credit is due to Leitrim County Council officials, councillors, and local TDs for their commitment to delivery," he said. "This funding is making a real difference in rural Ireland. The enthusiasm in the communities I visited today is tangible!”
The new facility is designed to function as much more than a book-lending service. Its flexible spaces for exhibitions, workshops, digital activities, and meetings will support lifelong learning and community participation for residents of all ages.
Leitrim County Council extended their thanks wishing County Librarian Pauline Brennan a long and happy retirement as she steps down after many years of service.
The transformation of the old hotel site into a modern, accessible public library is seen as a major boost for Dromahair’s future—enhancing services while preserving the character of the village.
