Leitrim County Councillor Des Guckian will be succeeded by one of his daughters after he stepped down for health reasons earlier this month.
One of Councillor Des Guckian’s daughters is expected to take his seat on Leitrim County Council starting next week.
Cllr Guckian, from Annaduff, resigned last month due to health reasons, bringing an end to his 11-year tenure as a local representative.
He has nominated his daughter, Irene Guckian Rabbitte, to fill the vacancy. Her appointment is expected to be officially confirmed at the council meeting next Tuesday.
“From that moment on, she will be a full member of Leitrim County Council,” said Paddy O’Rourke, Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, speaking to Shannonside. He added that she would be warmly welcomed to the council.
